By default in WordPress, the roles of each user group are fixed, but for some reason you want to customize these roles or create a new group of people with the roles you want them to be allowed to use. Of course, we can do this with the Advanced Access Manager plugin
First, you need to install the Advanced Access Manager plugin on your WordPress website via the admin dashboard and it’s free. After installing and activating, you’ll see a link named AAM in the Dashboard menu
How to edit user group permissions
Now, select the Roles section at the right bottom and click the Manage button of the user group to customize
After selecting, you should pay attention to the Role table below here and I will explain the meaning of each menu in that table as follows:
- Backend Menu: Manage blocking access to areas on the Dashboard menu.
- Metaboxes & Widget: Customize widgets and metabox to use for this group, here you don’t need to care.
- Capabilities: The authority of this group.
- Posts & Terms: Customize blocking / viewing / editing of specified posts / pages.
Create new user roles groups
To create a new user group, click the Create new role button (the plus symbol).
Then you enter the name and select the group of users who need it to inherit permissions so you don’t need to reset from the beginning.
Once you created, you must also press the Save button to save. Now you can go to the Users section and edit a user, now you can apply the group of users you just created.
Ok, that’s it, you can use this plugin to further customize the group of users that you need.
