Eclipse is an open source IDE allow applications to deploy Android, Google recommends IDE for programmers to have the most convenient environment. For this reason the toolkit provided by Android is available on Eclipse. So how to install Eclipse on Windows?

After download is finished, you have to install it.

When your download is finished, you should extract it and run eclipse.exe

3. Downloading the ADT plugin:

To add the ADT plugin to Eclipse:

  • Start Eclipse, then select Help > Install New Software. Click Add, in the top-right corner.
In the Add Repository dialog that appears, enter "ADT Plugin" for the Name and the following URL for the Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/

  • Note: The Android Developer Tools update site requires a secure connection. Make sure the update site URL you enter starts with HTTPS. Click OK.
  • In the Available Software dialog, select the checkbox next to Developer Tools and click Next.
In the next window, you'll see a list of the tools to be downloaded. Click Next.
  • Read and accept the license agreements, then click Finish.
  • If you get a security warning saying that the authenticity or validity of the software can't be established, click OK.
  • When the installation completes, restart Eclipse.

4. Set up the environment in Eclipse:

In Eclipse, click on Android SDK Manager to choose which package you should install (or menu item Windows -> Android SDK Manager):

Depending on your demand, marking the package to be installed, you should tick both the "Tools", in addition you can choose one or more of the accompanying API. Finally click "Install X packages", the download and installation takes a bit of time by the installer to mount the system-image. These package will declare which format version when you build app. In my Eclipse environment, i have installed Android (2.2, 4.0.3, 4.2.2, 4.4.2, 5.0.1)

After installation is complete, you need to restart eclipse. In order to develop Android applications is having a real Android device to test results are excellent but in case you do not have a real device, you can fully use the system simulator available in the Android SDK. Using the simulator system also ensures that you can test through more devices, ensuring the safety of your applications in the future.

Android SDK supports the creation of Android Virtual Device - AVD - it can be understood as the emulator, or virtual machine Android. In order to create an AVD. You just click on the Android Virtual Device Manager (or menu item Windows -> Android Virtual Device Manager)

Android Virtual Device Interface Manager allows you to manage the AVD, to create a new AVD click "Create" in the tab “Android Virtual Devices”.

You can set up like this.

  • AVD Name: Android_4.0.3 (whatever name you choose)
  • Device: Nexus(4.0", 480x800dpi)
  • Target: Android 4.0.3 - Api 15
  • CPU: ARM
  • Hardware keyboard present
  • Skin: HVGA
  • Memory Options 512Mb
  • Internal Store: 200
  • SD Card: 200

When you have done this, click OK. Finally you have completed the basic configuration for the eclipse, in the next section I will show you the structure of the android, its behavior and how to write it.
